There are many ways to get around, whether you’re in your own country or abroad, especially when you don’t have access to a car. Among the most commonly used means of transportation are undoubtedly taxis and rental cars. However, there are differences between these two types of transport services, and it’s beneficial to be aware of them both for economic reasons and in terms of the quality and inherent features of the service. Given these considerations, let’s delve deeper into this topic, examining in detail the differences and unique characteristics.

What is a private car hire?

Let’s start with this examination of the two types of transport services mentioned, starting with car hire with a driver. Also known by the acronym NCC, it’s a professional service centered around the figure of the driver. This person, usually known as a driver – an English term – defines the traditional role of a classy car driver. This rental is based on a specific reservation, much like an appointment with a set date and time. Moreover, you must specify the starting location and the destination. Two points, starting and arrival, that once set, help the driver to provide an optimal travel experience. It’s a unique means of transportation, sometimes making us feel like a VIP. From this perspective, it’s worth trying NCC, although it’s not regularly affordable due to the cost involved.

What changes between a taxi and an NCC?

As highlighted in the introduction, there are clear differences between the aforementioned type of transport service, NCC, and traditional taxis. Two different forms concerning transportation but belonging to the same category. While in the case of a rental with a driver you have the opportunity to enjoy a unique travel experience in classy cars, the scenario with taxis is different. As we know, taxis often have less elegant or powerful vehicles, which are considerably more common. Also, the rates differ: for the NCC the amount is substantial (30 euros per hour on average), while for taxis the cost is significantly lower (calculated by multiplying the meters traveled by the time taken). Taxis cater to immediate needs, not prearranged like the private car hire. There’s no setting of days, times, and destinations in advance with taxis; everything happens on the spot. No need to call 12, 24, or 48 hours in advance, but a maximum wait of 15 minutes to get a taxi service, unlike the NCC. Two ways to meet the same need, but, it’s appropriate to say, by traveling different paths.

Who issues the private car hire license?

Now, let’s look at another aspect that’s less relevant to those receiving the transport service and primarily concerns those who offer it. We’re talking about the license required to work as an NCC driver. Specifically, our focus is on who issues this license: the answer is the local municipality. They are responsible for issuing permits for similar activities, whether it’s private car hire or taxi services. A public tender determines the allocation of the license to participants who meet the necessary requirements (primarily owning or leasing a suitable car). The next step involves applying to the Chamber of Commerce to carry out the job. Two key steps if you intend to do this job properly, following general rules and procedures.

What type of driver’s license is needed to be an NCC driver?

Another essential requirement to work as an NCC driver is the driving license. This document is necessary not only for traditional drivers but especially for those who decide to pursue a similar career. No particular type of license is required; the regular B license is fine, provided it’s been held by the prospective driver for at least three years. In addition to the license, the aspiring driver must also have a KB certificate: the qualification to carry out the profession. Two essential documents to become drivers and drive classy vehicles to transport any requester of such a service.

What does “taxi NCC” mean?

Often you hear about “taxi NCC”, a term that is actually incorrect because it combines two service types belonging to the same category but are different. We explained in the previous paragraphs the differences between taxi services and private car hires; therefore, linking the term taxi to NCC is incorrect, even if a “partnership between the two means of transportation” is created. They are different, except for the fact they both transport a person from one geographical point to another. However, how they operate, the rates, and the overall experience differ. Taxis are more spontaneous and immediate, as well as cheaper; NCC is classier, more expensive, and specific (with set times, dates, and wait periods). Clearly, then, “taxi NCC” doesn’t make much sense as a term, except perhaps as an alternative way to indicate private car hire, but it’s factually inadequate. It’s essential always to distinguish between taxi services and private car hires to avoid confusing those using these services. Tasks with their intrinsic characteristics differ, only sharing the same reference category.
